The hotel Lampenhäusl is located in the village Fusch and Fusch has the appendix “a.d. Glocknerstraße”, which means “at the Glocknerstraße”. Why do I tell you this? Because the world famous Großglockner Hochalpenstraße stretches right in front of the hotel Lampenhäusl, which is really not bad for motorcyclists.
The Großglockner Hochalpenstraße is not only a world wonder in terms of architecture and road construction - motorcyclists call it the most beautiful alpine road in the eastern alps. Just behind the village Fusch the road begins to rise and takes motorcyclists in the world of the mountains. From Fusch, there is only one stop left - at the tollbooth in Ferleiten.
After that the fun is about to begin and the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße keeps it’s promise. Massive granite stones on the roadside indicate where you are and signs show you the number of turns which still lie before you. Speaking of turns - those are the best about the road - and there are 36 of them. Breaking, turning, accelerating - that’s what motorcycling is about.
On the Fuscher Törl you should stop for a minute - the views and the panorama are amazing. Großglockner, Johannisberg, Hohe Dock, Großes Wiesbachhorn - are just a few famous names of the Hohe Tauern mountains, which can be seen from there. If you want to get close to the Großglockner, you can move on to the Franz-Josef-Höhe and check it out. Or you keep on riding down the road on the Carinthian side of the mountain and start all over again. Or you even expand your ride and take back the road over the Nockalmstraße, one of the most beautiful nature roads of the country. There is no need to get back too early. Our neighbouring regions offer many good roads and you can go on for 2-3 days at least, like the "Zwei Staaten Tour", which takes you from Salzburg, to Tirol and back via Italy and the famous Brennerpass.
