Hiking tour Schwarzenberghütte
The Schwarzenberghütte - a real classic in the Hohe Tauern
Who knows Ferleiten and likes the landscape along the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, will also love the hike to the Schwarzenberghütte. A stunning trip through impressive high-alpine-surroundings. The path is steep and hikers have to do many steep turns - take your time and enjoy the landscape and the views.
The way to the Schwarzenberghütte
We start our hike at the Tauerngasthof in Ferleiten. The toll station is the best place to park the car. The first part of the hike is flat into the Käfertal-valley. Right at the Vögerl-Alm the path gets steeper. Behind the hut is the start of the well-signed path towards the Schwarzenberghütte (formally known as Mainzerhütte). This path takes hikers over about 1.000 vertical meters in endless turns until we reach an exceptional viewpoint with the Schwarzenberghütte on top. After about 4 hours we made it and look forward to a relaxing rest.
Take your time and enjoy the hike - no need for a rush. And take your camera with you. Along the way there is an amazing panorama to be looked at. The entire Ferleiten-valley, die Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, the Edelweißspitze, the Brennkogel and the Fuscherkarkopf are only a few examples. If you do not want to leave after this amazing hike up - stay over night, the Schwarzenberghütte has a couple of rooms and bunk beds for you.

TIPP from the Lampenhäusl
The Schwarzenberghütte plays a couple of roles. First of all it is a great stop after an even greater hike. On the other side it is a great base for a huge variety of amazing alpine, mountain adventures. If you want to check out some high summits in the Hohe Tauern, come and stay at the Schwarzenberghütte. From there you can reach, after another 800 vertical meters, the Gruberscharte and the Biwak - there you have to cross a glacier (equipment!). The Gruberscharte for it's part is starting point for some other well known summits like the Wiesbachhorn or the Klockerin. For those summits, you have to be well equipped and quite well experienced.
A bit lower and without ice, although not reachable without technical hiking, you will find the impressive rock-tower of the Hohe Dock. You need to hike about 1.000 vertical meters and have to climb over some quite exposed spots along the ridge - for experts only. After a long rest and full of great pictures you return from the Schwarzenberghütte to the valley and finally to the Hotel Lampenhäusl. What do you think of a fresh beer on the patio? Or do you prefer a hot sauna after a long day in your hiking boots? The Lampenhäusl has all you need.
