Lampenhäusl

The ambience:
The Lampenhäusl is one of the few remaining witnesses to gold and silver mining which blossomed in the Middle Ages. It was here that the pit lamps were cleaned, repaired, refilled, and maintained.
The natural block construction has been maintained in its natural state. The ridge beam is dated 1746, though it is certain that the original house goes back as far as the late Middle Ages.Up to 30 companies tried their luck with varying success. As well as the Lampenhäusl, other names are reminders of the mining period: the mansion, the Erzkauerhaus, the Sackziehäusl, the Sackziehbrücke and the Knappenleiten. Ruins of the mine shafts and the tunnel entrances remain to be seen in the Hirz stream, and on the Brennkogel recognisable up to 3000m altitude.
Natural phenomena, immense glacial thrusts and the exploitation of the seams led to the end of mining activity. In 1763 mining recommenced and continued exactly for a further 100 years. The brothers Hans and Sebastian Oberreiter acquired the Lampenhäusl in 1950, and it was converted to a snack bar.
This is the origin of the Lampenhäusl which Hans-Günther Oberreiter took over from his father and Uncle in 1982.
Since 2004 Isabella Oberreiter-Nindl and her husband Josef Nindl have owned and managed the hotel. As a consequence of the major rebuilding in 2006, the name Lampenhäusl will continue to provide the focus for a major guest facility for many years to come.
